Host Based Attacks vs. Network Based Attacks

Cyber-attacks are a large issue that many corporations and individuals deal with daily. In 2021 alone, it was estimated that 30,000 websites were hacked daily and if every 39 seconds an attack occurred then 60% of worldwide organisations have experienced at least one cyber attack (Spanning, 2022).

 

There are two categories that cyber-attacks can usually fall under:

- Host based.

- Network.

Host based attacks is when the attacks occur against a specific system to compromise both the host and its information – this may result in other hosts also being breached if unpatched etc.

 

The types of the malware that apply to this type of attacks are displayed in the table below:

Network attacks on the other hand use the network infrastructure to threaten assets from a geographically diverse starting point. Some types of these attacks are displayed in the table below:
